Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Consults and cooperates with administrators, school resource officer, classroom teachers, counselors and nurses in assessing the mental and emotional state of the individual students having difficulties.
• Consults with and counsels parents in working to improve home situations whereby more favorable conditions will be attained regarding school work, behavior and attendance.
• Serves as liaison between the school and outside agencies such as the Welfare Department, Juvenile Court and other agencies responsible for child welfare.
• Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on the student’s background and for developing cooperative home-school relationships.
• Helps families make appropriate social agency contact when needed.
• Serves as a liaison between home and school as needed.
• Participates with other members of the student personnel team in case conferences and regular staff meetings.
• Counsels students and parents in matters of attendance, behavior problems, emotional problems, family problems, and makes every effort to gain their cooperation.
• Provides resources for drug education classes, group meetings/therapy for students, parents and staff in cooperation with the assistant superintendent – student personnel services and the building principal.
• Helps to monitor attendance information with school counselors and principals and follows up on cases of chronic absenteeism that have proven unresponsive to counseling.
• Maintains and updates the directory of referral services yearly to be utilized in crisis situations affecting students such as suicide, alcohol and /or drug problems.
• Coordinates and/or develops in-service opportunities for all staff members related to mental health and social emotional learning.
• Assists counselors and administrators in outlining and implementing preventative programs for all students. Activities may include: classroom programs, school-wide activities, or connections to services.
• Serves as a member of the building/district crisis management team.
• Perform other appropriate school-related duties as assigned by the Principal/Executive Director of Student Services/Superintendent

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in social work, counseling or a related field

Missouri state licensure (LPC or LCSW)

Previous experience working in a school setting or with children and adolescents

Knowledge of social services, community resources and best practices in counseling and intervention.

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000

commensurate with experience and education level
