Description

Orchard Farm Transportation Department is seeking a Driver to join our team as a Dispatcher/Router.

 

Our mission is to empower each learner to excel in diverse communities. The Dispatcher/Router/Driver will operate in a multi-purpose role that will include, but is not limited to, making sure all bus routes are covered each day, assist drivers via two-way radios, assigning students to bus routes, answering incoming phone calls and operating as a sub bus driver and/or sub bus monitor; when needed.

  

Shift Hours are split shift:  6 hours per day

Non-Exempt - 12 month position with sick, personal and vacation leave

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent.
  • Valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License with P & S endorsements
  • A minimum of three years of experience is student transportation for a public school district; preferably in a router and/or dispatcher role. 
  • Ability to drive a school bus safely and efficiently
  • Ability to maintain safe discipline level among students
  • Ability to read and write simple sentences in English.
  • Ability to read and understand maps
  • Possess basic writing skills sufficient to complete pre & post trip reports and student discipline referrals
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and do so using units of American weight, volume and distance measurements.
  • Ability to understand and follow Board policies, administrative procedures and training and handbook materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with others
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to interact in a friendly manner with co-workers, parents and students

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
An individual who holds this position is responsible for:

 

Router

  • Formulate bus routes
  • Interact with bus drivers about bus routes and changes in routes.
  • Adjust routes as necessary for emergencies (i.e. road closures, flooding, etc.)
  • Monitor the number of riders on each bus and take care of overcrowding as necessary.
  • Keep computerized routes updated and in good order.
  • Prepare routes for drivers for run picks and be available to answer questions.
  • Answer parent questions regarding bus stops and routing information.

Dispatcher

  • Assure that all routes have a bus and driver assigned and are dispatched in a timely manner.
  • Assist drivers via two-way radios when they have questions regarding routes, traffic concerns, road construction, vehicle problems, or delivery of students.
  • Ensure that buses depart the lot on time.
  • Answer incoming phone calls from parents, vendors and/or other departments / buildings.

Additional Duties

Performing all duties expected of a bus driver and/or monitor. Including, but not limited to:

  • Transport students over specified routes according to an established time schedule
  • Transport students to events and field trips
  • Comply with traffic regulations
  • Drive safely and professionally
  • Perform required pre-trip inspections
  • Enforce the student discipline code
  • Submit required medical certification
  • Participate in required training
  • Participate in required drug and alcohol testing
  • Perform other duties assigned by Director of Transportation.
