Job Title: Before/After Care Facilitator

Reports to: Before/After Care Coordinator, Principal

Classification: Non-Exempt

 

Summary

The Before/After Care Facilitator is to plan, organize and implement daily activities for school-age appropriate programming for students enrolled in Discovery Zone.  The facilitator must provide the students with a leadership role, and be a positive role model all while providing a safe environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

An individual who holds this position is responsible for:

  • Planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities that advance all areas of children’s development and learning, including social, emotional, intellectual and physical competencies.
  • Maintaining an orderly physical environment conducive to optimal growth and development of students.
  • Working with individuals and groups of students to support academic and behavior management.
  • Learning new skills having flexibility and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and staff members in a professional manner.
  • Complying with State of Missouri licensing regulations to safeguard the health and safety of children in the program.
  • Participating in professional development related to position.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance.
  • Supervision to ensure visual and auditory awareness of children at all times to ensure their safety.
  • Perform other duties assigned but the Before and After Care Coordinator/Principal.

Supervisory Duties

Has supervisory responsibility over all students under their direct care.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

An individual who holds this positions must have the ability to:

  • Knowledge of appropriate and effective discipline techniques and practices for children grades K-8.
  • Knowledge of developmental characteristics of children pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and confidentiality of student information.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and management skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and oral direction.
  • Ability to problem solve and use sound judgement.
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational conditions.
  • Ability to be flexible, nurturing, and caring.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate relationships with adults and children.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a team member.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED preferred  
  • Two (2) years’ experience working with children in a similar setting preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate patience and compassion with young children.

Physical Demands

  • The employee may occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 100 pounds. 
  • The employee is frequently required to feel, grasp, push, and reach with hands/arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crawl, perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement, and move up or down from/to sitting position.

 

Conditions and Environment

  • Exposed to loud noise levels. 
  • Regularly exposed to varying inclement outdoor weather conditions.
  • May be exposed to potentially hazardous bodily fluids.
